Dakota Blessings Art Studio opens here

A new addition festooned with blooming flowers and a large Dakota Blessings sign at the home of Jane and Lance Kalmbach has attracted more than a little attention since June. Now, the public is invited to an open house at Dakota Blessings Art Studio, 503 1st Avenue NE in Kenmare, on Thursday, August 27th from 5 to 8 pm.

School Board debates future of Kenmare grade school building

A recommendation to make repairs at Kenmare Elementary School rather than build an addition at the high school to house all students in grades kindergarten through 12 sparked a long discussion at the school board’s regular meeting on July 21st.

Kenmare School Board tours high school building to consider option of housing all grades in one building

Members of the Kenmare School Board joined school superintendent Duane Mueller and high school principal Scott Faul on a tour of the high school building following the regular board meeting July 21st in order to consider various options for housing all the elementary classrooms under one roof. Mueller told board members he had spent time simply walking the building and considering uses for the space. “We have to think outside the box,” he said.

John Syvertson to serve as interim pastor for Kenmare and Bowbells Lutheran churches

Pastor John Syvertson, who begins his service as interim pastor at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bowbells on Thursday, believes he was called into the ministry as a boy. His route to the pulpit followed a career in social work across two states, but as he approached the age of 40 he decided to meet that milestone in seminary. “Six years later,” he said from his office at Nazareth Lutheran Church, “I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Carpio organic garden to operate 11 months of year

Marvin and Ilene Baker’s certified organic garden on the outskirts of Carpio is growing as well as any garden this summer, thanks to abundant sunlight, organic compost, and the occasional rain shower supplemented by irrigation from the Des Lacs River. A $20,000 boost from the Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture (ECH) at MSU-Bottineau will also improve the garden’s production this season.
