New restaurant under construction

Kenmare’s drive-in opened with a new name this spring, along with new owners. Now, the whole One Stop Burger Shop restaurant will be new as well.

Owners Penny and David Sigloh started construction last week on a new building at the existing site on Sixth Street NE.

Penny said the main portion of the 30’x60’ building, going up right east of the current drive-in, could be finished as soon as next month.

The existing building will then be demolished, with a 24’x15’ addition constructed in its place next spring.

The new building will feature a drive-through take-out window, as well as indoor seating for 40-45 people. The addition will also have seating for dining, and will be available as a meeting room.

With the new facility, One Stop Burger Shop will remain open for business year-round, rather than closing for the winter as it has in the past.

One Stop will also begin opening in the morning with a breakfast menu.

Penny said they should be in operation at the new building by late August or early September. She added they plan to be shut down for just a week as they move into the new and demolish the old.

The history of the drive-in goes back to 1964, when it was opened as a Tastee Freez franchise by William Bender.

Maxine Johnson purchased the business and operated it for about eight years before selling it to Craig and Sandy Livingston in 1976.

It then did business as Liver’s Drive In until 2005, when it was purchased by Alecia Livingston and renamed Chill-n-Grill.

Penny and David Sigloh bought the business in March 2011.
