Kenmare GooseFest seeks first Top Shot Chef in public Showdown

GooseFest is looking for its very first Top Shot Chef.

GooseFest is looking for its very first Top Shot Chef.

You don’t even have to load a shotgun to compete for the honors and prize money--and the winner will be selected by the public!

The Kenmare GooseFest Committee invites individual cooks and teams to enter the new Top Shot Chef Showdown, planned for Wednesday, October 23rd, at the Kenmare Memorial Hall before the Goose Hunters Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Cooks or teams in the Showdown will have the use of a roaster, provided by GooseFest, and the opportunity to prepare and serve the very best appetizers, main dishes or side dishes they have to offer.

The recipes can be family favorites, new experiments, or long-held secrets--meats, stews, vegetables, pasta dishes, meatballs, etc. Just so the final result is delicious when served from an electric roaster!

Contestants should plan to provide all their own ingredients, or find a sponsor, and prepare a roaster full of their entry for the contest and meal. Space will be available to cook or grill at the Kenmare Memorial Hall, if needed, beginning at 3 pm that day.

The doors open to the public shortly before 6 pm. All the roasters, labeled with the names of the chef(s) and the entries, will be organized for previewing, serving and voting.

For the price of a free will offering, each person coming to eat that night receives one plate and one ticket.

Tickets can be placed in the containers matching the diners’ favorite roaster entries--one ticket equals one vote. Votes will be counted at the end of the dinner, with traveling trophies and cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 announced for the top three entries.

GooseFest will provide the beloved apple pies for dessert that evening. A cash bar will also be available.

The Top Shot Chef Showdown is limited to 18 entries, and a fee of $50 is required when registering. That fee is 100 percent refundable to cooks or teams once they’re serving from their roaster on the 23rd.

Anyone who wants to enter must contact Larry Nore at 701-848-6571 by Sunday, October 20th. Individuals or groups with a favorite recipe or specialty to share are welcome to take their “best shot” at the Showdown and the chance to win $500!

Call and reserve your entry today in the Showdown, or make plans to round up a flock of friends to come enjoy a meal and vote for GooseFest’s first-ever Top Shot Chef.
