Kenmare Coyote Tournament starts Friday
The much-anticipated annual Kenmare Coyote Tournament, hosted by the Kenmare Fire Department, begins Friday, January 14th, as teams gather to plan their strategies and prepare for the actual hunt, which takes place Saturday, January 15th.

The much-anticipated annual Kenmare Coyote Tournament, hosted by the Kenmare Fire Department, begins Friday, January 14th, as teams gather to plan their strategies and prepare for the actual hunt, which takes place Saturday, January 15th.
Proceeds from the Coyote Tournament benefit the fire hall fund, although teams are competing for prizes and bragging rights over their success in the northwest corner of the state.
Teams will gather at the Kenmare Memorial Hall to enjoy appetizers and refreshments Friday evening at 6 pm, followed by a mandatory rules meeting at 7 pm.
Friday’s activities continue with a calcutta for the teams and auction at 8 pm sponsored by Kenmare Veterans Club, Inc. The public is welcome to attend the calcutta and support their favorite teams in the hunt by bidding on them. Several additional items will be auctioned that evening to raise funds for the Fire Department.
Saturday’s schedule includes the hunt itself, limited to 50 two-person teams, with a meal served by the fire department auxiliary members and door prizes provided for the participants beginning at 6 pm. The winning teams will receive their cash awards at that time, after all teams have returned. The public is also invited to join the fun Saturday night and celebrate the hunters’ success and stories that evening.
The old fire hall, behind the Memorial Hall, is designated as the tournament headquarters, and teams can check in with their coyotes there anytime Saturday before 6 pm.
Hunters of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the tournament. Teams will pay an $100 entry fee, with $50 of that returned in prizes and $30 benefiting Kenmare’s fire hall fund. The remaining $20 allows hunters to automatically enter the “big dog-little dog” contest for the largest and smallest coyotes harvested that day, with 100 percent payback in contest prizes.
