Alliance Pipeline recently announced plans to construct a 77-mile lateral pipeline (see map here) in North Dakota that would connect new natural gas production from the Williston Basin to the Alliance mainline in North Dakota. The natural gas would then be shipped onward to the Chicago market hub.

Tony Straquadine, Jr., Government Affairs Manager, said the 12 inch pipeline would begin at the existing Tioga gas plant and travel across Burke and Renville Counties, and connect with their mainline at a point near Sherwood. The line will cross the Des Lacs Refuge just south of the lakeshore crossing and nip the corner of Ward County near the Highway 5 & 52 curve about 10 miles north of Kenmare.

To comply with all regulations, Alliance will file an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for approval of the project. Pending FERC approval, the construction timeline for the project is between October 2012-May 2013, with an in-service date of June 2013.

The Alliance Pipeline main facility, to which the Tioga Lateral will be tied into, is a 36” pipe beginning in British Columbia and traveling 2400 miles to the Chicago, Ill. market. This facility has been operating safely transporting energy from Canada since December of 2000 and from North Dakota since 2010, to the Chicago hub.

In addition to the new North Dakota pipeline, the Tioga Lateral Project will require construction of a compressor station, meter station, and liquid pump station, and a pressure regulating station.

Open House planned
in Tioga and Kenmare
for input from landowners
Mr. Straquidine said the next step of the planning process is to obtain input from landowners and other interested parties. Letters are being sent to affected and interested parties, inviting them to open houses for the public to hear their concerns and get their input into the project.

Open houses are being planned for Tuesday, Aug. 16th from 4 to 8 pm in the Farm Festival Building in Tioga, and on Wednesday, Aug. 17th from 4 to 8 pm in the Memorial Hall in Kenmare.

The open houses are an informal opportunity for you to learn more about Alliance’s Tioga Lateral Project. You will be able to view displays and obtain information on topics such as project scope, need, benefits, regulatory processes, environmental surveys, construction, operation, schedules, land restoration, and safety, and meet with Alliance staff and share your views, issues and concerns before a formal application is submitted to the FERC, the lead federal agency responsible for authorizing the project.
