Extended mild weather helps with challenges of late harvest
10/28/14 (Tue)
Very late for wheat . . . Hank Bodmer combines spring wheat Oct. 23 on his Ward County farm southwest of Tolley. It was Bodmer’s last wheat field of the 2014 harvest. A series of issues, mostly untimely rain, has slowed the small grains harvest to an historic three-month time frame. Late-seeded wheat and durum turned out with better quality than grain that was seeded according to normal time lines. Vomitoxin has been one of the biggest issues producers faced this year. Bodmer’s late-harvested wheat turned out about average.
