We can all agree that 2020 has been a strange year for all of us so Rick and Teresa Johnson decided to offer Kenmare and surrounding area a bright spot to start the new year.
The Johnsons opened the High Octane Bull’s Eye Cafe on U.S. Highway 52 Dec. 28, just south of Nore’s Auto and Trailer Sales.
It’s a long time coming, according to Teresa Johnson, but the target date to open before the end of the year was met.
“We got the itch in January last year (2019) when we purchased the building and didn’t know what to do with it,” she said. “We thought about a NAPA Auto Parts store, then we thought about renting and we were both against that. Then Rick came up with a coffee shop with ice cream.”
The garage of the former residence is now the kitchen where a wide variety of items are available, from fresh-ground coffee to sweet potato fries to pizza made in house.
For now, which means winter hours, High Octane is open from 7 a.m., to 7 p.m. Teresa Johnson said they may extend hours at a later date, but that is yet to be determined.
“We’ll try to add on to the menu,” she said. “We want to have a little bit of everything, and if you want something on our menu, let us know.” ...
