GooseFest to feature Brag Night...

Every year hunters talk about their success in the field. Whether it’s a deer, a moose or even that big fish. Human nature is for sportsmen to describe their safari.

Every year hunters talk about their success in the field. Whether it’s a deer, a moose or even that big fish. Human nature is for sportsmen to describe their safari.

This year the GooseFest committee is giving those hunters and fishing enthusiasts a chance to “show off” their prize trophy in the hours prior to the Hunters Calcutta on Oct. 25.

The event will also include a sausage feed.

It’s something new, according to organizer Trevor Melin. The committee is calling it a “brag night” in which sportsmen will bring in their favorite mounts for display during the GooseFest.

“We’ve talked about it the past couple of years,” Melin said. “We’re trying to get more people to attend GooseFest.

He added the committee is hoping that by adding brag night, it will bring entire  families to Kenmare’s Memorial Hall to have a look at some of the trophies that have been mounted in the past few years.

But it isn’t just for bragging rights, according to Melin. There will be prizes, but he didn’t specify what they are going to be.

Categories

There will be categories for white-tail deer, a mule deer, general game, and people’s choice. Mounts  could include coyote, fox, pheasant, moose, bobcat, or big fish. Any other mount will be eligible this year to receive a prize as well as GooseFest bragging rights. There could even be a photo shoot.

Because it’s an inaugural event, Melin said he really doesn’t know if three or 300 mounts are entered. And, it isn’t limited to local residents. Anyone with a mount is eligible to participate He is, however, hoping to be surprised.

Brag night is a moving target (no pun intended) and if it’s successful, the committee will consider establishing rules and additional categories for future events.

Mounts should be brought into Memorial Hall on Friday, Oct. 25, with 3 p.m. being the deadline.

“We’ll have boards lined up so they don’t have to sit on the floor,” Melin said. “We’re having a wall built so the mounts can hang like at home.”

Anything goes

Again, because it’s an inaugural event, Melin said anything goes. That means if you have a bear, elk or even a kangaroo, it will be eligible for a prize.

For more information, or specific details on brag night, interested sportsmen should contact Melin at 701-848-6004 or Monte Brekhus at 701-848-6503.

This is an opportunity for hunters and fishermen to put their money where their mouth is and show Kenmare, GooseFest participants and the world what they have in their rec rooms at home.

“We’re hoping this helps attendance,” Melin said. “We’re hoping to show people what we’re doing at GooseFest.” ...
