Opening week enrollment at Lewis & Clark-Berthold Public School followed a trend started last year, with 21 new students arriving at the school.
However, several kids also moved from the area, so total enrollment stayed fairly steady with 282 students filling the desks, compared to 279 on opening day last year and 260 two years ago.
Every class at Berthold Public School welcomed new students as the year started, except for third grade.
Berthold Elementary School has 137 students this year, down two from the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. The school greeted 17 kindergarten students, now attending full-day sessions for the first time. The first grade also has 17 students, thanks to one newcomer. The second grade roster increased by one to 22, third grade also has 22 students, and the fourth graders were joined by two new kids for a total of 18 in their class.
Fifth grade welcomed one new student for a class of 20, while sixth grade grew by two students to 21 for the year.
Junior high enrollment dropped from 52 kids last year to 46, with 23 kids in each grade. The seventh grade class added four new students, and eighth grade welcomed one new boy.
The Berthold High School classes are among the largest in the school. Two new freshmen arrived, for a total of 25, while the sophomore class had one addition. The juniors make up the largest class in the school at 28 students, including three newcomers.
The Class of 2013 has 23 students making their final mark on the school, with two kids joining the senior Bombers.
Enrollment for the high school grew by 13, with 99 students registered for grades 9 through 12 right now compared to 86 at this time last year.
