Every grade at Berthold Public School welcomed new students to the classroom as the year started, except for the Junior Class.

Opening day enrollment was up significantly at 279 students in grades kindergarten through 12, compared to 260 filling the desks on the first day of classes last year. Twenty-nine students are new Bombers, along with the 20 members of the kindergarten class.

Total enrollment for the elementary school is 139 students. The first grade welcomed four new kids for a total of 22 students. Two new kids boosted the second grade numbers to 23, while third grade has 16 students including a pair of newcomers.

The fourth grade has 22 members with two new students, and four kids joined the fifth grade class for a total of 18 students. Sixth grade also filled 18 desks, with one newcomer in the mix.

The junior high enrollment stands at 52 kids in grades seven and eight. The two classes are evenly-sized with 26 kids apiece, including four new kids each.

Enrollment at Berthold High School totaled 86 Bombers. The freshmen added one member to their ranks for a class size of 21, while the sophomores welcomed three new kids to boost their numbers to 27 students. The juniors held steady with 23 members.

The Class of 2012 is one of the smaller classes at the school, with 17 young men and women working toward their diplomas including two new students. The Berthold seniors are certain to make an impact on the younger kids, however, in true Bombers’ fashion.

With the beginning of the new year, the students and staff also welcomed Mrs. Sarah Kimball as a science teacher for grades 7 through 12, as well as new custodians Janice Feickert and Peggy Schweitzer.
