The usually quiet winter afternoons at the spillway on the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge where ice fishermen gather to try their luck were noisy last week with four airboats running up and down the Mouse River on the other side.

If those 2011 New Year’s resolutions to slim down and exercise more have started wavering in recent weeks, maybe Kenmare’s zumba class with its hard-driving Latin music is what you need to get re-energized. Some of the Monday and Wednesday regulars call the sessions just as addicting as chocolate.

The Northwest Landowners Association had just finished organizing last December when they found themselves in Bismarck two weeks later, drafting legislation to address some of their concerns about issues between surface owners and the North Dakota’s booming oil industry. Following action in the state House of Representatives last week, those efforts have started to see success.

The Kenmare-Tioga-Ray wrestling squad will continue to have a presence at the Class B state wrestling tournament, with five grapplers qualifying during the Region 3 Individual Tournament held at Rugby on Saturday. The K-T-R team finished in 8th place with 88.5 points.
