New daycare for Berthold receives $100,000 donation

The new day-care facility for the Kids Academy in Berthold is $100,000 closer to being paid off, thanks to a grant received from the Otto Bremer Foundation.

Flooded bar and cafe at Mouse River Park will be demolished

The Country Mouse Bar and the Mouse River Park Cafe have served guests for decades and survived a handful of floods through the years, but the Mouse River flood of 2011 proved to be too much for them. On September 6th, the Mouse River Park Board approved a motion to demolish both buildings.

Mouse River Park resident and former Country Mouse operator Louise “Snookie” Stark was sad about last week’s announcement by the Park board to take down the bar and cafe buildings after assessing the damages from 2011 flood.

Council approves bond issue to build four townhomes

New development in the community moved forward as the Kenmare City Council adopted a resolution approving a $650,000 bond issue for construction of a four-unit townhome rental property at the intersection of Central Avenue and Sixth Street.

Preschool opens year with 45 students and five teachers

Kris Zimmer took a risk and opened the Little Learners Preschool in Kenmare six years ago, hoping a few parents would be interested in the opportunity.

Canada Goose Trail opens Friday on Des Lacs NWR for wildlife observation opportunities

The Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge is opening the Canada Goose Hiking Trail to automobile travel on Friday, September 9, 2011 through Friday, September 23, 2011.

Berthold Public School enrollment jumps, wtih 29 newcomers in the classes

Every grade at Berthold Public School welcomed new students to the classroom as the year started, except for the Junior Class. Opening day enrollment was up significantly at 279 students in grades kindergarten through 12, compared to 260 filling the desks on the first day of classes last year. Twenty-nine students are new Bombers, along with the 20 members of the kindergarten class.

Alliance comes to Kenmare to review plans for Tioga-to-Sherwood natural gas pipeline

Just over 30 area landowners and other interested people showed up for the open house hosted by Alliance Pipeline in Kenmare August 17th to discuss plans for the proposed Tioga Lateral Pipeline.
