Little Learners Preschool gets busy with 27 little students
School started yesterday at one of the busiest classrooms in Kenmare, the Little Learners Preschool. Actually, Little Learners Preschool welcomed so many kids this year that three classrooms are necessary. “We have 27 students,” said preschool owner and teacher Kris Zimmer, “and we’re full! But we have three teachers and we’re using three rooms, so the kids get to rotate through each room and each teacher gets to work with each kid.”

Paving begins on portion of Scenic Lake Road
News from the Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge at Kenmare was mixed last week, with progress seen on two major refuge construction projects but repeated vandalism reported at both the Boat Dock area and Tasker’s Coulee.

Lewis & Clark-Berthold School enrolls total of 265 students
The Bombers’ ranks have swelled by 20 students, with 265 students enrolled for the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, compared to an enrollment of 245 last year.

Kenmare School sees highest enrollment numbers in five years
Kenmare schools opened the 2009-2010 school calendar with the highest enrollment numbers seen in five years. Teachers welcomed 290 students to their classes, an increase of 16 students from first-day enrollment totals last year.

Dakota Blessings Art Studio opens here
A new addition festooned with blooming flowers and a large Dakota Blessings sign at the home of Jane and Lance Kalmbach has attracted more than a little attention since June. Now, the public is invited to an open house at Dakota Blessings Art Studio, 503 1st Avenue NE in Kenmare, on Thursday, August 27th from 5 to 8 pm.

Photos as therapy develop into book as snapshot of rural culture
Harlan Nelson started photography as a way to heal the physical pain that has plagued him since childhood. After a couple decades of “making pictures,” to quote his phrase, his hobby evolved into a book project and a vanishing community’s collection of stories and photos.

School Board debates future of Kenmare grade school building
A recommendation to make repairs at Kenmare Elementary School rather than build an addition at the high school to house all students in grades kindergarten through 12 sparked a long discussion at the school board’s regular meeting on July 21st.

Kenmare School Board tours high school building to consider option of housing all grades in one building
Members of the Kenmare School Board joined school superintendent Duane Mueller and high school principal Scott Faul on a tour of the high school building following the regular board meeting July 21st in order to consider various options for housing all the elementary classrooms under one roof. Mueller told board members he had spent time simply walking the building and considering uses for the space. “We have to think outside the box,” he said.
