The weekend’s flood forecasts for the Souris (Mouse) River came in with unprecedented numbers, with the Sherwood gauge increasing from 20.75 feet on Friday to 22.86 feet on Sunday and expected to peak at 23.6 feet this week. Flow rates were predicted to increase from 3,900 cubic feet per second (cfs) late last week to as much as 10,000 cfs by this weekend.

The Kenmare school board made several decisions that will impact student activities next year, during a regular meeting held May 10th. Board members started with an extensive discussion of the use of the Donnybrook gymnasium for practices and junior high boys basketball games. Activities Committee chairman Mike Zimmer reported on a meeting held with Curt Graff and Dennis Huff of Donnybrook.

After looking at low participation numbers and high costs for transporting student athletes to practices, games or meets, the Kenmare School Board Activities Committee agreed to present those facts to the full board to make a decision about eliminating one spring sport.

With 138 surveys returned, the attitude toward a smoke-free Kenmare came through clearly: 81.4 percent of the respondents favored a law in Kenmare that would prohibit smoking in all indoor public places.
